Troubleshooting Your Car's Battery

Your car's battery is crucial. Without it, your vehicle won't even start. Testing your battery is a great way to make sure you don't get stranded someday. It's a good idea to check the battery periodically. If you've been driving in extreme temperatures, it can take a big toll on this part.

Checking the battery requires a device called a voltmeter. Before testing, make sure your car and its lights are off. Attach the positive lead to your battery's positive terminal. Repeat for the negative pole elements. If your battery reading is between 75% and 100% (12.4 to 12.6 V), you're good to go. Any reading of 50% (12.2 V) or less means trouble.

After you get the reading, make sure to remove the negative lead first. Then clean the leads and terminals. If you have concerns about your battery life, stop by Red Rock Hyundai and we can help you get a reading.
